An Excellent novel from the legendary writer The way the author has portrayed the characters and the narration is simply awesome. A must read.. I mean, how could he disappoint me like this? Let go of the story and characterisation, the writing also disappointed me. This book provides a testament that the man who created the magnum opus Ponniyin selvan could even write an average, not-so-good book like this.
The major disappointment was the use of English and Sanskrit words. I just checked the author profile and goodreads again and again to make sure that I bought the wrong book.
Alas, I was wrong and this was written by the great Kalki himself. Why English in a Tamil book? The story was loosely written very loose than you could imagine! Secondly, Kalyani seem to be a freak. Weaving a simple next door story, Kalki has crafted a delicate art in carving the plot of a common innocent man who is accused of stealing money in the process of saving his innocent younger sister, imprisoned, turning into a jailbreak, eventually forced to be a much dreaded burglar.
With the subtlety of his love towards his sister and his love, Having read some of the other books by this author, mostly historical fiction, it was a pleasant surprise to read a modern era fiction from this author. With the subtlety of his love towards his sister and his love, the author has drafted the fate of this naive burglar which is worth reading. Though this book was eventually shot into a movie, I think the author has done a fair job than the director to this story.
Its about how situations and love for his close ones makes a thief out of a normal guy and his struggle to get back what he lost, during the transition. His narration of riverside, ponds, forest is awesome. The choice of words and the comparisons are just too good.
Make u realize how good our language is. Love is everything.
